Hi, I’m Lori. I’m an author and editor based in Austin, Texas. My love of language goes way back. I was the kid who got high marks in English without really trying, the one everyone wanted to proofread their essay. I’m sure being a voracious reader had a lot to do with that. It took me a while to parlay this passion into a career, but if there’s one thing I enjoy as much as reading & writing, it’s helping other writers polish their prose.
I’m a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy, urban fantasy in particular. Stories about the supernatural in a modern setting fascinate me, which is why I love writing them just as much as reading them. I’m currently working on an urban fantasy series about a witch from a long line of witches with no magic of her own. (And yes, in case you were wondering, editors need editors too!)
I’m an enthusiastic participant in National Novel Writing Month each November and an advocate for literacy (and writing!) year-round. If not for Nano, I probably never would have finished a single novel, much less had the courage to publish. It’s also given me the opportunity to connect with many wonderful writers in my community–an amazing, creative, supportive group of people.
I don’t drink coffee, but I hang out in a lot of coffee shops. They’re my favorite places to write, edit, and people watch. For the record, most baristas will give you a cup of hot water for free. Bring your own teabag, and be sure to tip.
